Jean has been a teacher for 30 years in Leicestershire within special, high and primary schools. Prior to that she worked in the advertising departments of various London Provincial newspapers and the Radio Times.

She has enjoyed art since secondary school but did not take it up seriously until 1990 after a number of painting holidays in France.

Her first love is pastels. The immediacy of using paint with her fingers appeals to her as does the variety of textures the pastels and background surfaces create. She likes to paint outside but when it is not convenient, then she works from sketches, photographs and her memory to recall the atmosphere of the place and how she felt being there.

Jean has exhibited at a number of venues including: The Mall Galleries London,  Frank Haynes Gallery Great Bowden, Leicestershire, City Gallery Leicester and Patchings Farm Arts Centre near Nottingham.
