Using greys Eileen conveys the feeling of a view in the dead of night where nothing stirs and the hillside sleeps. Vibrant pastels reveal the magic of wild flowers on a summer day.

Going Down

Eileen trained as a primary school art teacher in London at Philippa Fawcett College of Education and Camberwell School of Art, where she studied graphic design and printmaking. She taught in London and Leicester. In 1997 she took early retirement to restart her personal Art Education.

Eileen enjoys working in mixed media for landscape, still life and the figure, but always returns to pastel and charcoal as her first choice. She finds inspiration in the English landscape and in the commonplace objects that surround us.  Light and shadow and strong contrasting colours often spark an idea for a painting.  She always begins with preliminary sketches and perhaps some photographs for further reference for painting in the studio, but working out of doors is always preferable.

She is a member of The Leicester Society of Artists, The Leicester Sketch Club and is Secretary of The Leicestershire Pastel Society.
