10th Annual Exhibition 2009
Once again we held our popular Annual Exhibition in Leicester. Again we attracted a strong public interest with visitors and buyers drawn from a wide geographical area, including some from abroad. The Exhibition was opened by Lars Tharp, from BBC's Antiques Road Show who entertained us all with humorous anecdotes before awarding the prizes.
'Rutland Landscapes & Legends' written by Brian Martin and illustrated by Alan Oliver has over thirty paintings. You can see the paintings, which are watercolours, on Alan's website. www.alan-oliver.co.uk
Magazines
Tim Fisher has been commissioned to produce a 6 month series for the Leisure Painter on acrylic painting techniques starting November 2010.
DVDs
Tim Fisher is in the process of producing a series of instructional art DVD's filmed on location in the Yorkshire area. The first one will be working pastel with ink and other media.
We often get asked what pastel classes exist in the Leicestershire and Rutland areas from all abilities, not just beginners. Now if you know of, or are running a class please let us know and we can pass the information on. Below are art classes run by two of our members.

ADVENTURES IN ART is now on Tuesday mornings, 10.00 - 12.00 Noon, each 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, term time.
These are open to all, beginners or experienced. Materials are provided.

By popular request Margaret Chapman is running her 3rd Community Painting Day where people paint a section of a well known painting, then assemble it into one enormous work!
Saturday March 6th 2010. 10am to about 4pm.
North Memorial Hall, Stoughton Rd, Oadby, Leicester.
The Day will have an Easter theme and we hope to be using two sections of Hans Holbein the Younger's 'The Passion of Christ '-

We hope the new year finds you all happily painting and planning many
wonderful art-related activities for 2010.
IAPS has some exciting news, which is the appointment of our new
Vice-President, Liz Haywood-Sullivan. We are very pleased to have Liz on
board and know that she brings many useful skills, knowledge and energy
to IAPS. If you'd like to know more about Liz, see the

We're working to develop new ideas and projects for 2010 and for the
convention in 2011. In case you haven't seen it, we have a new feature
on the IAPS web site, which is a listing of member societies' national
juried
competitions. We believe this will be useful to you when you're
planning which competitions to enter throughout the year. The list is
updated frequently as more shows are added, so it's a good idea to check
it often.
IAPS' Fifteenth Juried Exhibition opened at the City of Brea Art Gallery
on January 23, 2010. The show hangs until March 5, so if you are in the
area, please stop by this beautiful gallery and take a look. Award
winners in the exhibition were given by our judge, Terri Ford, as
follows: Prix de Pastel, Cuong Nguyen,
Becky; Gold Award, Sally Strand,
Bedside A.M.; Silver Award, Phil Bates,
Burney Falls; Bronze Award,
Sangita Phadke, Black & Green Grapes
Honorable mentions were given to Eileen Casey,

Lady of the Tramps; Christine
Bodnar, Profile; and Charles
Timken, Architectural Remnants.
Images of the award-winning paintings will be posted on our web site
soon, along with a full list of accepted entries. Catalogs may be
ordered from the Brea Gallery by phone (714-990-7730) and will also be
available on the IAPS web site soon.
Our next exhibition, the Sixteenth Juried Exhibition, will be at the
Butler Museum in Youngstown, Ohio, and will hang from July 11 to August
29, 2010. The entry deadline is April 26; you can download a prospectus
from the IAPS
web site.
The 2010 IAPS Web Show prospectus will be available within the next few
weeks on the web site, with an entry deadline in September. We'll send
an email notice when the prospectus is posted.
