Trained as an engineer then a graphics designer and a technical illustrator. Alan became a professional painter in 1983. He has had paintings exhibited in many of London's major societies, including the Royal Institute, the Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal Oil Institute and the Royal Academy and the Pastel Society.

Alan paints mainly landscapes but enjoys any subject if the light on it is interesting .Alan has completed many commissioned paintings, mainly of houses. He has had three books published, the latest 'Watercolour Planning and Painting' published by Search Press. He also writes for art magazines and contributes to many art instruction books. He has a private gallery at home in Oakham. Appointments can be made for viewing.

Alan became the President of the Leicestershire Pastel Society in November 2008.
