As a child, Marion Smith's favourite pastime was always drawing or painting. But after gaining a distinction in school exams it was to be thirty years before she would draw or paint again because of training, family and career commitments.
She trained at Lincoln Diocesan College in Maths, Physical Education and English and, despite having two sons, worked full time. She became Head of the Expressive Arts Department at Anstey Martin High School and later, Deputy Head at Groby Brookvale High School.
Her career and family left no time for the pursuit of art until she picked up a pencil and sketchbook for therapy, following a serious skiing accident. The cure was complete and has led to a most rewarding and lasting retirement activity.
With sound advice and challenges from excellent local tutors and fellow artists she enjoys pushing ideas and materials.
Awards at Patchings, Sketch Clubs and local society exhibitions have enabled her to express her love of the countryside and pursuits through innovative ideas, texture and colour.
