Mary has been painting as an enthusiastic
amateur for the last 25 years and has attended various adult education
classes in art in that time. She was first introduced to pastel about 15
years ago and now considers it her favourite medium although continuing to
work in watercolour and mixed media.
She loves the subtleness of a medium that also
provides great vibrancy of colour and draws inspiration from the effects of
light on her subject. Favourites include landscapes,
flowers and still life, and is currently influenced by visits to her
daughter in New Zealand where the scenery and colours are breathtaking.
